Lillian Bassman
Lillian Bassman (1917–2012) was an American photographer and painter renowned for her work in fashion photography. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Bassman's photographs are known for their ethereal contrast, abstract forms, and elegant portrayal of models, which appeared in Harper’s Bazaar throughout the 1940s to the 1960s. Her distinctive use of darkroom techniques, which involved manipulation of images through blurring and bleaching, helped create a new aesthetic in fashion photography that emphasized mood and style over clear representation.
