It’s not hyperbole to say that Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc is one of the most famous hotels in the world. It is, admittedly, a touch further away from La Croisette, but well worth the drive. Hotel du Cap, located at the southern tip of Cap d’Antibes, was initially a winter writer’s retreat before it reopened as a luxury hotel in 1889. Over the years, the Oetker Collection property has welcomed everyone from Elizabeth Taylor and F. Scott Fitzgerald (the Hôtel des Étrangers in Tender Is the Night is modeled after Hotel du Cap) to Leonardo DiCaprio and Kendall Jenner. It’s also the locale of the glitzy amfAR Gala, which always takes place during the Cannes Film Festival.

Hotel du Cap comprises 108 elegantly decorated guest rooms and four private villas. There are three main restaurants, as well as three bars and lounge spots, and poolside dining. It’s not a trip to Hotel du Cap without a dipm in the iconic outdoor infinity pool, and while the photo op isn’t required, it seems to be something of a prerequisite, for better or (most likely) worse. Stroll through the sprawling gardens, try your hand at tennis on one of the clay courts and hit the spa. Don’t forget about the hotel’s custom Aquariva Super boat.

JW Marriott Cannes

Yes, JW Marriott is technically part of a hotel chain, but it’s also one of the top properties in Cannes. It has character; this isn’t all cookie-cutter vibes. Much of the hotel pays tribute to cinema, a fitting homage considering its proximity to the annual Cannes Film Festival. The 262 rooms and suites are outfitted not just with floor-to-ceiling windows, leather accent walls, nautical blue details and marble bathrooms, but also feature black-and-white portraits of iconic film stars. Scalini serves Italian cuisine on-site, though you can also head to Palais Stéphanie Beach, situated directly in front of the hotel, for more international fare, plus sea views from the Croisette. For those who prefer to relax à la piscine, ascend to the rooftop pool, aptly dubbed Le Panorama Rooftop, to lounge.

Hôtel Barrière Le Gray d’Albion

Le Gray d’Albion is located just a street away from its sister property, Le Majestic. It’s not perched directly on the beachfront, but guests do have access to the hotel’s private beach club, Mademoiselle Gray Plage Barrière, complete with an on-site restaurant, lounge chairs and impressive views of the Mediterranean Sea. There are 200 rooms and suites, which are outfitted in a more contemporary, black-and-white color palette.

La Ligne Mini Marina Sweater

There are a few constants you’ll find throughout Observer’s Jet Set packing lists, particularly when it comes to any trip that’s even slightly nautical-adjacent—and that’s the must-have inclusion of a Breton-striped sweater. My own collection of striped sweaters is bordering on hoarder-like at the moment, and yet, I’m still eyeing this La Ligne sweater for the second year in a row, contemplating adding it to my assortment. Every year, without fail, this Upper East Side luxury hotel welcomes an array of A-listers who check in ahead of fashion’s biggest night, spending the day in one of the 106 rooms as they prepare for the Costume Institute Gala.

Photographers and eager celebrity watchers begin camping out at the property the morning of the gala, and the crowds only grow as the day progresses, as excited onlookers hope for a glimpse of their favorite A-listers. The guest list never disappoints: Last year, Cynthia Erivo, Sofia Richie, Rosé, Jeremy Allen White, Sabrina Carpenter, Jenna Ortega and Damson Idris were just a few of the celebs who prepped at the Mark Hotel; in the past, other attendees who have checked in to the hotel ahead of the festivities include Gigi Hadid, Cardi B, Anne Hathaway, Kylie Jenner, Zendaya, Charli XCX, Phoebe Dynevor, Bad Bunny, Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union—and so many more.

And yet, it is Anna Wintour’s repeated patronage that just might be the biggest stamp of approval. The Vogue editor-in-chief, who has helmed the Met Gala since the ’90s, has chosen the Mark as her go-to pre-Met spot at least 10 times. And don’t forget that the Mark is not only a pre-Met Gala hotspot, but it also typically plays host to one of the biggest afterparties of the evening.

The Lowell Hotel

A few blocks down on 63rd Street, the Lowell Hotel is one of the more boutique hotel options for Met Gala attendees. The 74-room property, a member of Leading Hotels of the World, is a touch more understated, and it’s typically less of a total mob scene outside. Last year, Vogue Club hosted a private Met Gala Watch Party at the Lowell, and designer Stella McCartney has made the Lowell her home base for the Met Gala on multiple occasions, along with Pamela Anderson, FKA Twigs, Ed Sheeran, Madelyn Cline, Regé-Jean Page and Aubrey Plaza. It’s already made a Met Gala splash for 2026, as well—co-chair Venus Williams was spotted leaving the hotel ahead of the Met Gala Co-Chair Welcome Dinner.

The Pierre, a Taj Hotel

The Pierre is a New York City classic, epitomizing old school glam. It’s home to 189 rooms and suites, and has been a power player in the city’s luxury hotel scene since it first opened its doors in 1930—over the years, it welcomed guests including Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor.

More recently, it has hosted a plethora of Met Gala guests like Rachel Zegler, Pedro Pascal, Emily Blunt, Jack Harlow, Kerry Washington, Emily Ratajkowski, Lady Gaga and Julianne Moore; last year, it was the dressing room for Lorde, Megan Thee Stallion, Pamela Anderson, Suki Waterhouse, Walton Goggins, Mindy Kaling, Coco Jones, Demi Moore and Zoe Saldana. It’s a touch further downtown than the previous entries on this list, but it is right on Fifth.
